Assia, accelerating psychosocial reports for family courts
Corporación Opción is a Chilean non-profit dedicated to protecting children’s rights, and has provided direct care to more than 400,000 children and adolescents. Teaming up with their innovation unit, we built Assia, a private assistant that turns a psychologist’s or social worker’s diagnostic notes into a solid first draft of a psychosocial report.
On 25 June 2026, Opción presented the pilot at the Public Challenges Innovation Congress. Universidad Católica’s public innovation lab and the Inter-American Development Bank organized the congress. In October 2026, Opción presented the pilot at the 20th Chilean Congress of Psychology at Universidad de Talca. Opción will present the pilot again on 26 November 2026, at their first Childhood Innovation Meeting.
Staff already write the session notes. The notes cover interviews, home visits, and the professional’s reading of the case. The diagnostic report is a separate document. Staff rebuild the notes by hand into that program’s sections. In several programs, the report has to hold up in family court.
The notes contain sensitive data about children. A made-up sentence can enter a case file. Each program has its own report format.
Assia is the web app Opción staff use to request a report. A language model writes the draft under that program’s rules. The work runs in the background. A full report takes minutes.
- The professional submits the records as text or a voice note, and declares that identifying details were removed. A director reviews the request.
- The worker reads the records together with that program’s report definition. The definition sets the sections and the writing rules. A voice note is transcribed. If the transcript conflicts with the written record, the worker uses the written record. The professional can override that with an explicit correction.
- The model returns a fixed structure. Each section has the text, the supporting facts, and alerts for gaps or contradictions. Each fact names its source note. A fact that names a missing note causes the draft to fail.
- The worker produces a document. The professional edits it and approves it before it goes into a case file or a proceeding.
A general chat tool writes a plausible sentence when a fact is missing. It does not keep each program’s sections. It does not record which note a sentence came from. It has no director review. Assia adds deterministic checks so the document is reliable while it is written and in the response that comes back. Opción tried to build this internally. The documents were faulty, and the same notes did not come back as the same draft. Those checks run before Assia shows the document.
